SHORE CLOTH BEACH TOWELS

Students were asked to produce a prototype for a product of our choosing, and create a fully developed brand ecosystem. Requirements included a working logo and watermark, a visual identity system, and product packaging.

CONCEPT & TASK

Shore Cloth Beach Towels are made from recycled seashells and other eco-friendly materials. With these towels, Shore Cloth is redefining the textile industry and proving that the beauty of the ocean and environmental responsibility can coexist as one unit. Shore Cloth’s target market are environmentally conscious individuals who are dedicated to helping the planet.

FIRST DRAFT

FINAL DRAFT: Box and towel band

I began my designing with my logo and watermark. I chose the shell because of the vital role shells play in the company’s brand product. I then expanded the concept of the shell by illustrating a pattern to display over the entirety of my brand.

PROCESS

As a requirement, we had to create a vessle for our product to be sold in. I chose an open-face box to showcase the beach towel at first glace. To hold the product in place, I included a band that would wrap around and display important pieces of information such as the company name, tag-line, and towel dimensions.

Creating brand packaging for the first time brought for many challenges and new design choices. I had very little knowledge as to what was included and knew every piece of information had to influence the consumer or hold some weight of importance.

CHALLENGE & TRIUMPH

To combat this challenge, I did plenty of research and also referred to personal experience of what aspects I look for when purchasing a product like a beach towel. As for myself, the first thing I always look to is a tag with a full size view of my towel’s pattern, which gives explanation to the illustration on the back of the Shore Cloth box.
